Problem: 2020 was a bad year for the travel industry. We’re talking 60%-decrease-in-bookings bad. How do you get people to book a hotel stay when travel isn’t remotely on their minds?
Insight: In a year without all the usual reasons to travel, everyone deserved a little R&R just for surviving the collective hell of 2020.
Idea: For Virgin Hotels’ annual holiday campaign, we hired a boozy, gossipy, oh-so-Virgin-Hotels Santa Claus to offer people a respite from their house/office/gym/daycare centers. Our naughty Santa struck a chord: despite a year of record-low travel, our 2020 holiday campaign far surpassed 2019 bookings benchmarks.
